Alex is committed to government transparency and accountability; protecting the natural and urban environments, open space and Sydney’s unique heritage; retaining inner city social and affordable housing; the humane treatment of animals; improving transport options; and fairness and equality for the LGBTI communities.

Alex was elected as the Independent Member for Sydney at a landslide by-election in 2012, following undemocratic legislation designed to remove the popularly elected Clover Moore.

Prior to entering politics Alex ran a small recruitment business that found jobs for 1000s of Sydneysiders, and led the nationwide campaign for marriage equality.

Alex grew up in the city centre and has lived in Sydney for 25 years. He studied at the University of New South Wales and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and remains an active member for many community and advocacy groups.

Alex maintains strong working relations with local, state, and federal representatives and is passionate about a safe and sustainable Sydney.
