Marine Risks

Marine Risks

Erosion of our marine biodiversity continues. Recently the NSW Government disgracefully downgraded protection of 10 ocean beach and headland sites from sanctuary (no-take) zones to habitat protection zones. This represents about half of protected coastline and will impact on fish numbers, catches and biomass. I’ve asked questions about what new conservation will be introduced to compensate, however I suspect there will be little given this government’s track record. It’s been six years since experts recommended a Sydney Marine Park and the government has failed to act.

Meanwhile the federal government is undertaking the largest marine conservation downgrade in the world, including to critical waters near the Great Barrier Reef. Our marine future is at risk and I encourage you to add your voice to oppose these dangerous decisions. My questions are HERE and HERE.

The Nature Conservation Council campaign with a message to the Premier is HERE.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
