Media Release: Moves to expunge gay convictions in NSW welcomed

The Independent Member for Sydney, Alex Greenwich, has welcomed the announcement of the Liberal Member for Coogee, Bruce Notley-Smith, that he will introduce legislation to expunge the criminal records of gay men charged with offences including sodomy and buggery prior to decriminalisation in 1984.

Mr Greenwich said he will work with his parliamentary colleagues to ensure the best possible legislation passes NSW Parliament this year:

"2014 marks 30 years since decriminalisation and I will work with my State parliament colleagues to right this historic wrong that saw gay men charged for being who they are and loving who they love".

"I have recently meet with those who marched in the first Mardi Gras, the 78'ers, and know that such legislation will have a real and meaningful impact on many older gay men and lesbian women"

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
