Aboriginal Cultural Heritage

Aboriginal Cultural Heritage

The Legislative Council has referred the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage (Culture is Identity) Bill to a committee for review and I’m concerned that the government and opposition will block the bill proceeding to a vote. The bill is long overdue and aims to give Aboriginal people the authority to protect and preserve ancient cultural sites. Existing protections are spread over various different acts, give First Nations people minimal input in decisions and have resulted in widespread loss and damage to cultural heritage across the state. The system does not work and that is why I am co-sponsoring Reverend Fred Nile’s bill.
