I congratulate the Minister for Energy and Environment Matt Kean and Lord Mayor Clover Moore for installing a temporary and future permanent air quality monitoring station in the CBD. We’ve been calling for this for 15 years since the previous station attached to the Cross City Tunnel was removed. Air pollution is a massive environmental risk to public health, causing millions of deaths each year from stroke, heart disease, lung cancer and chronic respiratory diseases like asthma. Measuring air quality is a vital first step to managing it and preventing illness.
