Heritage Fleet, Metro West Plans Central Walk, Plastic Bag Ban Needed, Overdose Remembrance & Newsletter Issue 14

Heritage Fleet

I am preparing a submission to oppose the appalling proposal to change the existing approval at 3 Bank Street Pyrmont from a heritage boat repair workshop with public museum and public open space to a storage facility for supplies and waste from 22 chartered boats which will be moored at the harbour when not operating. This is prime waterfront land that successive governments have promised will provide public recreation space and become a destination. The proposed development is significantly different to the approved development yet it is being assessed as a modification to the approval. I encourage you to view plans and make a submission. See HERE.

Metro West Plans

The proposed Sydney Metro West rail line due for completion in the late 2020s will include stations in the Bays Precinct and CBD. You can provide comment about the stations and how the Metro should integrate with other transport, HERE.

Plastic Bag Ban Needed

Plastic is devastating the environment, polluting waterways and ending up inside the fish we eat. Plastic bags are a major culprit, breaking down in the waste stream into tiny plastic pieces. Australia consumed over a billion plastic bags in the last decade and it is time NSW caught up with the rest of the world and banned plastic bags. This week Harris Farm, Coles and Woolworths committed to banning plastic bags by next year.

Environment ministers will discuss plastic bags at the end of the month and I asked the NSW Minister for the Environment to introduce a ban to cover the state and support a national ban at the meeting. My letter is HERE.

Governments must act urgently to address this looming environmental and health disaster. You can join the campaign HERE and download and sign my petition HERE.
