GLEBE MUF UPDATE

I again asked the Minister for Planning to call in the proposed port expansion at Glebe Island for a ‘multi-user facility’ in a joint request with Jamie Parker of The Greens, whose Balmain electorate will host the facility. It is inappropriate for the NSW Port Authority to develop and determine its own proposal without any independent assessment given the potential significant impact from 24 hour operations including ship deliveries and truck movements, and the technical detail in reports. We also asked for a meeting with the minister. Our letter is HERE.

CAPITAL GRANTS

A total of $330,000 in capital grants is available for the Sydney electorate through the Community Building Partnership. Grants close Friday 15 June and are for local non-profit community groups who contribute to public benefit. Information and applications HERE.

CITIZEN BLUE

In response to the lack of bottle and can return depots across the inner city, the Boomerang Alliance has set up a Return and Earn depot at 310 Princes Highway St Peters open to residents and businesses www.citizenblue.org.au. The project will expand to support microbusinesses that deal with our waste explosion and remove rubbish from our waterways and public domain, including large pick-ups from commercial outlets and event waste management.

You can find the closest Return and Earn outlet HERE.

Unfortunately, the minister’s response to my questions about increasing the number of inner city outlets just says that this is up to the scheme operator. See response HERE.

SAFE ACCESS ZONES

Fair Agenda has a rally Thursday 8.30-9.15am outside Parliament House Macquarie Street in support of the bill to provide safe access zones near health clinics that provide abortion, reproductive health services, cancer screening and other contraceptive services HERE.

I strongly support this reform to ensure any woman can access the health care they need without harassment from strangers over something that only affects her body. I hope that MPs across all parties support the bill.

NARRABRI CSG

Stop CSG Sydney is hosting about the Narrabri coal seam gas project in the Pilliga forest, which will have 850 wells and threatens underground water. The forum is at Redfern Community Centre 6pm Friday 8 June and includes the documentary ‘Sacrifice Zone’ and local speakers. Information HERE.

LIVE EXPORT RALLY

The Animal Justice Party is holding a rally calling for a ban on live export following the dismal federal government response to the latest in a long series of mass deaths and cruel treatment on ships. The event is Saturday 9 June 11am-12pm at Sydney Town Hall, information HERE.

GOOD COOK

You can enjoy a theatre night and support Rough Edges’ work with people who are homeless 6pm Tuesday 12 June. The play ‘Good Cook. Friendly. Clean.’ shows the impact on older women – the fastest growing group making up those who are homeless. Tickets available HERE.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
