Alex's Update Issue 27
Planning Review Forum, Chinese Healthy Living Expo, Carers Awards, CSG, Ending HIV, Sydney News and VIVID
I invite you to my forum on the Planning Review, to learn about how proposals will impact you and your neighbourhood. Proposed changes alter community participation, strategic planning, environment and heritage assessment, and certification. Community comments are due by 28 June.
My forum is on Monday 17 June at Paddington RSL 220 Oxford Street. RSVP or telephone my office.
Last Friday, I launched the Chinese Services Interagency’s Healthy Living Expo. A great range of service providers had stalls to provide targeted information and advice in the right language. Congratulations to the organisers. Check the photographs on Facebook, click HERE.
Do you know a carer you would like to be recognised for their unpaid support to people who need extra help because of a disability, mental illness, chronic health condition, dementia or ageing? You can nominate individuals or organisations by 28 June here
I was the only member to support Greens MP Jamie Parker’s proposals in Parliament to allow farmers to “lock the gate” and refuse access on their properties for coal seam gas exploration and mining. The Coalition opposed the amendments and Labor abstained pending further information.
In Parliament there was unanimous support for my motion commending the Government and the Minister for Health on HIV/AIDS prevention, awareness, and education initiatives; and acknowledging ACON’s work delivering support and services for people with HIV and AIDS, and prevention and education programs particularly within the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex (LGBTI) communities.
The new campaign aims to eradicate HIV by 2020. For details: http://endinghiv.org.au
My latest “Sydney News” newsletter for constituents is on my website HERE. Please call my office if you live in the Sydney electorate and have not received a copy.
Have a great week
Alex Greenwich MP
Independent Member for Sydney
