Alex's Update Issue 37

Supporting National Parks, Random Refund Deposit Day, Childcare Forum, Kings Cross Adolescent Unit and Mental Health First Aid

Last week I hosted and spoke at a community forum “Conserving national parks for future generations” and will initiate debate on the petitions I submitted with more than 10,000 signatures opposing shooting in national parks next week.  My national parks speech is HERE.

I’m concerned that the inner city remains the place that young people at risk end up, and asked the Minister for Family and Community Services about the future of the Kings Cross Adolescent Unit. She said a replacement Metro-Central Child Protection Adolescent Response Team would work intensively with high-needs young people, and I’m keen to hear if this new service makes sure that young people get the help they need. My Question is HERE .

If you’d like to learn about Family Day Care as a childcare option, please come to my forum 6pm Monday 19 August at Pyrmont Community Centre. Waverley Council run this childcare service across my electorate. Details and registration: HERE and coverage of the forum in the Wentworth Courier can be found HERE.

Over 86 per cent of people in NSW support a container deposit scheme. Come along to the Random Refund Deposit Day 10-11am Saturday 17 August at Minogue Reserve, Franklyn Street Glebe to get 10c refund on empty bottles and cans, use a Reverse Vending Machine and learn about the issue. Details phone 9211 5022.

Have a great week

P.S. Have you thought about doing the 12 hour Mental Health First Aid course, where you could learn about helping someone who has a mental illness? The O’Brien Centre at St Vincent’s Hospital will run a program on 30 August and 6 September. Contact Graeme Curry [email protected]

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
