Book Bans

Book Bans

n Parliament I gave notice of a motion to congratulate the Cumberland councillors who restored common sense to the way the council manages library books by overturning its recent ban on a book about same sex parenting. Library books are an important resource for families, especially rainbow families who might experience stigma and discrimination and struggle to access targeted support. Libraries should be safe spaces for everyone to access information regardless of their sexuality, gender identity, family makeup, ability, race or religion. Rainbow families exist across the state and include families of faith.

Library books are no risk to children, but bigotry and discrimination are. I congratulate Equality Australia on another fantastic campaign and bringing communities from across the city together to support fairness and human rights.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
