Building Certifiers

Building Certifiers

Concerns about developments signed off by private certifiers with defects, or that have destroyed heritage or do not comply with basic requirements like privacy setbacks have not reduced despite years of tweaking at the legislation. The government introduced some new improvements that will make it easier to take disciplinary action against non-compliant certifiers and encourage better conduct. The Building Professionals Board will be abolished with its regulatory role transferred to the Department of Finance, Services and Industry. While I welcomed the bill, I argued that the only way to ensure private certifiers protect the public interest is to prevent builders and developers from hiring the person who signs off on their construction work. The government is consulting on a rotation system that would remove this relationship. My speech: HERE

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
