Casino Tower

Casino Tower

(Update, 20 August 2019)

I welcome the Department of Planning and Environment’s recommendation that Star Casino’s plan for a 215-metre hotel and residential tower be refused on planning grounds. But there is now a move to subvert this independent planning process with the Greater Sydney Commission asked to review the planning rules that currently protect Pyrmont against overdevelopment to facilitate this appalling development.

Pyrmont supports some of the highest density living in the country while maintaining social diversity and cohesion, green open space and services. This is a testament to good planning rules which must not be undermined to suit one developer.

Along with the City of Sydney and many affected residents, I opposed the Star Casino tower from the outset because of its bulk and scale, and breaches of planning controls. My 2016 objection: HERE and detailed 2018 submission: HERE

The Independent Planning Commission should acknowledge that the proposal does not meet planning rules and refuse the DA.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
