City Infrastructure Risk

City Infrastructure Risk

Development must always correspond with high-quality infrastructure like bike paths, parks, libraries and childcare centres to ensure neighbourhoods can cope with the increased density.

Councils provide these infrastructure services using contributions from developers, but the government is planning to change how these contributions are collected and allocated. Funds would be redirected to regional areas, a new complex calculations system would be introduced and the types of infrastructure that could be funded would be limited. The City of Sydney and Woollahra council report massive cuts to income putting local amenity, safety and economic vitality at risk.

Legislation was introduced last year but outcry led the government to undertake consultation. I have met with relevant ministers and spoken in Parliament urging the government to withdraw plans and work with councils to deliver high-quality infrastructure across the state. My speech > HERE.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
