Lord Mayor Clover Moore and I have asked the Prime Minister to continue JobKeeper and increase JobSeeker payments, and develop a comprehensive economic recovery strategy that covers industry sectors most impacted by COVID-19 and ensures that all Australians are part of the recovery.

The inner city has been significantly impacted by the pandemic with key sectors still suffering, including tourism, hospitality, events, arts, entertainment, leisure and higher education. More than 20,000 businesses in the City are on Jobkeeper, due to end at the same time as the end of temporary insolvency provisions and rent moratoriums. The City of Sydney economy has suffered a $7 billion decline!
