Comment on Council Amalgamations
18 December 2015
I welcome the government’s recognition that the City of Sydney is financially and socially strong. Any change to its boundaries would put its position at risk.
It’s unfortunate that the Woollahra Municipal Council’s strong economic position, social achievements and the desires of its residents have been ignored and that the government wants to force this council to merge with Waverley and Randwick.
I hope the Boundaries Commission considers concerns about potential rate increases, and loss of heritage protections and local services in Woollahra before making recommendations to the government.
I will continue to support Woollahra Council in their campaign to stay standalone.
If mergers go ahead, I will push to maintain services, limit disruptions and ensure my constituents in Paddington, Woollahra and Edgecliff are not disadvantaged.
