Pyrmont residents recently alerted me to a secret proposal for a second concrete batching plant on Glebe Island, which is in addition to the proposed Hansen concrete batching plant, the 24 hour ’multi-user’ facility and potential major roads construction site. Glebe Island is now adjacent to one of Australia’s most densely populated residential areas and I am worried about ad-hoc planning behind closed doors aimed at intensifying its industrial activities at the expense of residential amenity. I understand this latest proposal will likely again be self-assessed by Sydney Ports Authority.
