I’ve asked the health minister to consider a ‘COVID-19 Allowance’ for public health workers in recognition of their contribution during the pandemic, similar to the Victorian ‘Hospital surge support allowance’.

Frontline health workers have managed unprecedented hospitalisations with stresses on emergency, intensive care and paramedic services. Other public health staff have taken on vital roles in vaccination and testing to support the community as we manage the pandemic.
