COVID-19 Update 14 April

For the latest Health information and advice on COVID-19: www.health.nsw.gov.au.  For information on financial and other supports call Service NSW 24 hours a day 7 days a week on 13 77 88. Below is an update on some of the latest COVID-19 related news and my work as your local representative.

The NSW Government has announced their package of measures for renters and landlords. Fair Trading can help resolve disputes. See: HERE. I expect Parliament will resume to pass legislation for this package, but have not seen the legislation and have sought a briefing from the Treasurer. I will call for changes to protect tenants who are not entitled to JobSeeker or JobKeeper and their landlords if my concerns that they are disproportionately impacted are not addressed.

The latest support packages include funding to cover preschool fees for up to six months and for council childcare centres that are not eligible for JobKeeper payment: HERE. The government will also defer land tax or allow late payments: HERE.

My website has a list of financial supports available to individuals, sole traders and small businesses: HERE. In response to community concerns about people in immigration detention or on temporary visas, I’ve asked the federal minister to urgently review provisions for refugees and asylum seekers during the COVID-19 pandemic: HERE.

Last week, I took part in online information sessions about managing during COVID-19 with the Paddington Business Partnership and Strata Choice. Project Displaced is a great online resource for displaced airline, arts, tourism and hospitality workers: HERE.

It’s important to stay home, but there are still ways you can get involved, stay connected and help those in need during COVID-19. My website has a list of organisations with volunteering opportunities and other ways to stay connected: HERE
