Earlier this year I worked with Emma Hurst MLC from the Animal Justice Party to get government support for her bill to reduce the killing of dogs and cats in pounds. Companion animals are often killed because of a lack of resources or willingness to look after them and Emma’s bill – which is now law – will require pounds to take steps to rehome animals in their care before killing them.

More needs to be done to protect impounded companion animals and the government has commenced a review into rehoming by pounds. Animal Liberation has a guide to making a submission and I encourage you to use this to make your voice heard for our voiceless.
