Dogs in Pubs
Bringing your dog to the local pub or bar is a nice, sociable and civilised thing to do, yet it is illegal and while some pubs and bars let dogs in anyway, if someone complains, councils have no choice but to enforce the prohibition. This is ridiculous: pets are an important part of people’s lives and when dogs are in public places, it’s good for community, atmosphere and the dog’s wellbeing.
Ten years ago laws were changed to allow dogs in outdoor dining areas and this has not caused any concerns. The Greens member for Balmain, Jamie Parker, has a bill to change the laws for pubs and bars and I have asked the government to support it. The local government minister’s recent response to my letter shows the government is still considering this issue. I encourage you to sign Jamie’s petition at HERE.
