Drugs Reform

Drugs Reform

While I would have liked to see NSW follow the ACT’s lead and embrace a more progressive response to drug law reform, I joined my NSW Cross-Party Harm Minimisation Roundtable colleagues to welcome the government’s long-awaited response to the NSW ice inquiry. It’s plainly obvious that a law and order focus for people experiencing problems with drugs is failing and we need a big shift to a health approach.

A pre-court diversion program will see low-level drug users issued with an infringement notice instead of going to court while the drug court in Sydney will be increased from one day a week to five, helping to divert more people away from criminal convictions to support services.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
