Ending Domestic Violence

Ending Domestic Violence

Last year New South Wales saw the highest number of women murdered by a current or former partner in nine years. Intimidation, stalking, harassment, apprehended domestic violence orders and breaches are all up and there are long waiting lists for behaviour change programs. While the government increased funding in the last budget, specialist services are overwhelmed. Family and domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women with women escaping family and domestic violence representing a third of all clients to Specialist Homelessness Services. Family and domestic violence causes trauma that lasts generations with impacts on health, mental health, education, employment, housing, child protection and justice, and the state budget. In Parliament I called for more investment in the sector to end the violence.
