Food Waste
Our food security inquiry found that an average of 312 kg of food is wasted each year in NSW; at the same time fresh food is expensive and some people cannot afford food.
While about one third of food waste is in our homes, it occurs in every part of the food chain, so it is great to see media attention to our recommendations to limit the ability of major retailers to impose aesthetic standards on produce that mean perfectly good fruit and vegetables go to waste.
