Gangs of feral cats roaming Sydney streets are threatening native wildlife
GANGS of feral cats are wreaking havoc on Sydney’s native wildlife but their reign of terror could soon come to an end.
Marrickville Council will investigate how many cats are living wild in the area, where they are located and methods for stopping them from killing native animals.
The investigation comes after RSPCA figures revealed one un-desexed female cat and her subsequent offspring could produce up to 420,000 cats over seven years...
...Sydney state Independent MP Alex Greenwich has also introduced a bill to parliament that would ensure trap, neuter and release (TNR) programs, already undertaken widely by cat care groups across Sydney, are made lawful.
“It gives volunteers legal certainty and potential access to grants while enabling the collection of data on TNR,” he said.
