Gay Hate Inquiry

Gay Hate Inquiry

The government has taken the first steps to right past wrongs in setting up a long-overdue Special Commission of Inquiry into LGBTIQ Hate Crime, led by Supreme Court Justice John Sackar.

The inquiry will inquire into all unsolved suspected hate crime deaths in NSW between 1970 and 2010 where the victim was a member of the LGBTIQ community and NSW Police previously investigated the death.

Forty years ago men like me were bashed and killed and no one cared, but this is now being taken seriously. This is a painful but essential process to heal the wounds of the past. I hope that this providesĀ some closure for the friends, family, and communities of those who were victims of brutalĀ and cowardly attacks. We must ensure that dark time is never repeated.
