Glebe Island Noise
The NSW Port Authority’s draft noise policy for the Multi-User Facility and Hanson Concrete Batch Plant is skewed towards ensuring shipping activities can proceed 24 hours a day, seven days a week without any interference from neighbours seeking to protect the peaceful enjoyment of their homes. Proposals exclude curfews or periods of respite, and permissible noise levels are higher than limits set in Glebe Island’s existing environmental protection licence, any recorded licence exceedances, White Bay Cruise Terminal limits and World Health Organization recommended limits.
The reinstatement of industrial shipping activities on Glebe Island should be governed within the framework of the surrounding high density residential development that has been established by successive government policies. My submission called for the government to work with the local community to strengthen controls: HERE.
