During question time, I asked how the government will achieve its commitment to halve homelessness by 2025. The minister referred to three key focuses in early planning: prevention, support and pathways to long term housing. The government agreed to my request to increase outreach to rough sleepers and fast track temporary accommodation during the chilly weather. My question: HERE

I welcome a number of other government initiatives that will reduce the number of people on the street including the Home and Healthy program at St Vincent’s Hospital aimed at preventing people becoming homeless when they are discharged from hospital, and screening and support programs for young people at risk. However I will continue to push for a massive boost in social housing as the most urgent solution to homelessness.
