The Minister for Roads and Ports has not address community concerns about the loss of direct pedestrian access to the city on the Harris Street walkway linking Ultimo with the CBD, despite residents and council requests for reinstatement of the direct walkway since 2004 when it was cut off as part of widening of the Western Distributor. The Minister’s response ignored residents’ concerns about poor lighting, stating only that reinstatement might be considered in ‘future planning’.
