Thousands of apartments need to be built to house Sydney’s growing population and the law must encourage sound construction and protect owners’ rights in defects cases. In Parliament I argued that the Home Building Amendment Bill protects builders and developers over owners by reducing coverage of most defect types from the six-year statutory warranty period to two years and by providing them with a defence where defects arise from architects’ or engineers’ advice. The bill deals with people’s homes and their biggest investment and I hope it is amended in the upper House. My speech is HERE.
