The urgent need to get people off the street during the pandemic must be used as an opportunity to build a social and affordable housing system that provides a home to those who don’t have one, with safeguards to prevent people at risk becoming homeless. I have been working with the Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services about housing our most vulnerable people during COVID-19 and beyond, and in response to my question in Parliament he said that the government has provided accommodation to over 1,200 rough sleepers in the last three months and committed to the ‘Together Home’ package which will see people homed with wrap-around health and mental health support.
