I have accepted a position on the Premier’s Council on Homelessness where I will work with peak bodies, support services and the government to establish policies and plans to address homelessness. The inner city is home to large numbers of people who are homeless living on the streets and in crisis accommodation and boarding houses; reducing homelessness is a key priority for me. I hope the council provides opportunity to make a difference following years of increasing homelessness rates.
I met with the Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Gareth Ward on Youth Homelessness Matters Day to discuss measures to reduce youth homelessness and he assured me that youth homelessness will be a key priority for the new council.
