Homelessness Progress
Data from last week’s homelessness street count show about 10 per cent fewer people sleeping rough, but crisis accommodation still near capacity. We counted 334 people sleeping rough across the LGA and 505 people in hostels or temporary accommodation. You can see the counts taken since 2010: HERE
The End Street Sleeping Collaboration 2019 commitment from the NSW Government, City of Sydney and major homelessness services aimed to reduce rough sleeping in the city by 25 per cent now, and that outcome is very close with a 23 per cent reduction so far: HERE.
We need more transitional supported housing for people who have high level complex needs, as well as more social and affordable housing. I’ll keep working with government and the homelessness sector to address homelessness.
