Homes as Homes

Homes as Homes

Returning converted holiday rentals back into homes is one of the quickest ways to increase housing supply. There are around 5,400 properties in the City of Sydney being used as short term accommodation which could help the many people looking for a home in the inner city’s competitive rental market.

We could remove loopholes, tighten nightly caps, strengthen enforcement powers and introduce a Victorian-style levy on short term letting. Yet despite taking submissions on how to improve regulations of the short term rental industry over a year ago, the government has not introduced any new reforms and in Parliament I asked for urgent action to stop homes being turned into hotel rooms.
