Iran: Women, Life, Freedom
I’ve written to the foreign affairs minister in response to many requests from concerned people about the brutal crackdown on protestors and human rights breaches in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Many people have contacted me about the legislation and government policies that prevents women’s equal participation in economic and social life and extensive mistreatment and abuse of women by the ‘morality police’ that has now stirred popular unrest and protest. I am also concerned about the torture and killings of minority groups and LGBTIQA+ people in Iran.
I’ve asked the minister to condemn the Islamic Republic of Iran, deny visas to Islamic Republic officials, apply Maginsky sanctions against key officials, recall the Australian ambassador in Iran and call in the Islamic Republic ambassador to convey the Australian community’s opposition to this abuse. My request > HERE. The Minister's response > HERE.
