Jackie Braw

Jackie Braw

(Community Recognition Statement, 16 February 2022, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)

On behalf of the Sydney electorate, I wish to thank Jackie Braw for her work in NSW Police Crime Prevention Command as Sexuality, Gender Diversity and Intersex Policy and Programs Officer, which grew from her initial role as the first NSW Attorney General's Department Policy Officer, Gay and Lesbian Liaison in 1999.

This work has been vital for the cultural change occurring within NSW Police addressing past homophobia and transphobia. Jackie is well known for her passion and commitment to serving these communities and working on reform within NSW Police. Police officers have reported on Jackie's practical and personal support, and her critical role with training Gay and Lesbian Liaison Officers [GLLOs], organising conferences and providing resources, information and advice for these officers across NSW. Jackie has been central to police engagement with LGBTIQA+ communities, particularly with events that recognise, celebrate and build more positive relationships with NSW Police. These programs have developed and expanded under Jackie's hand and I trust that NSW Police will build on her experience and expertise to develop this work further. I commend Jackie Braw for more than two decades service in this role.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
