Mental Health Month

Mental Health Month

Tuesday 4 July 2017

Mental Health Month is in October and you can nominate to recognise people or groups for their excellent work at NSW Parliament. There are small grants of $500 or $1,000 to run projects including specific categories for work with young people, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, Aboriginal people and LGBTI community. Nominations close 31 July. Detailshttp://mentalhealthmonth.wayahead.org.au/nomination/

I hope that the mental health services review ensures that tragic deaths like that of Ms Miriam Merten after her restraint and seclusion in Lismore Hospital in 2014 never occur again. There will be workshops and submissions, with the report due 8 December. Details: www.health.nsw.gov.au/patients/mentalhealth/Pages/default.aspx

You can also make submissions to the Parliamentary Inquiry into the Management of Health Care Delivery in NSW. The closing date has been extended to 31 July:  https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/committees/inquiries/Pages/inquiry-details.aspx?pk=2423

Anyone with concerns about healthcare treatment can ask the independent Health Care Complaints Commission to investigate, telephone 1800 043 159 or https://www.hccc.nsw.gov.au

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
