Legislative Council

Legislative Council

Counting has finished for the NSW Legislative Council (upper house). The Coalition won eight seats, Labor seven, two each for the Greens and One Nation, and one each for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party and Animal Justice Party. I’m excited that Emma Hurst is now the second Animal Justice Party MLC – I’ve worked with her on a range of animal welfare concerns.

Only half of the upper house seats were being contested and altogether the coalition will have 17 seats and Labor 14; with 11 members on the cross bench.  Neither of the major parties has a majority so the government will have to negotiate with crossbenchers when Labor opposes its legislation.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
