Priority Social Housing Age Criteria

Priority Social Housing Age Criteria

The number of older people struggling to secure affordable housing is on the rise with women aged 55 and over making up one of the fastest growing groups facing homelessness. With long wait lists for social housing in NSW and a shortage of affordable housing, older people are not able to get secure housing at a time in their life when earning capacity might be limited and age related living expenses can increase. Currently you must be 80 years old before priority for social housing is automatic.

After meeting with the Housing for the Aged Action Group (HAAG), I asked the minister to lower the age for priority social housing eligibility to 65 years.

Secure housing is the first line of defence in ensuring the health and wellbeing of older people. My letter > HERE and HAAG information > HERE.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
