Mardi Gras Lockouts

Mardi Gras Lockouts

This year the blanket lockout was lifted for Oxford Street venues on the night of the Mardi Gras parade without any issues of violence or anti-social behaviour.

This adds to evidence that the 1.30am lockout should be removed for well managed venues to restore vibrancy and confidence in Sydney’s late night economy. While the government stalls action, it should recognise that Mardi Gras is a globally recognised festival that lasts longer than one night and in Parliament I asked the minister to extend exemptions for the week leading up to the parade. The minister said the government would consult further and consider an extension closer to the event. My question is HERE.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
