Marrinawi Cove Heritage Award CRS
(Community Recognition Statement, 6 June 2024, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)
On behalf of the Sydney electorate, I commend the Millers Point Community Resident Action Group on receiving the National Trust's Advocacy Award at this year's Heritage Awards for their successful campaign to open Marrinawi Cove Barangaroo, Sydney Harbour's first new natural swimming hole in over 50 years. The Community Resident Action Group worked with government agencies, the community and local leaders to build support and show the benefits of allowing swimming at this location.
Marrinawi Cove continues to be very popular and showcases our harbour to locals and visitors alike. Local residents like Yasmina Bonnet worked hard advocating for this facility and continue to look for ways to make the swimming hole more accessible and to improve its amenity. I commend all those involved with the campaign. The National Trust Heritage Awards celebrate outstanding practice, awarding excellence in conservation of our heritage and the Marrinawi campaign team well deserves this recognition.
