Millers Point Community Hub Co-op
(Community Recognition Statement, 22 February 2022, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)
On behalf of the Sydney electorate I commend the Millers Point Community Hub Co-op [MP COOP] for their dedication to reducing waste and recycling.
The MP COOP is a not-for-profit community cooperative focussed on reusing and sharing to reduce consumption and waste going to landfill. Their Sharing Shed Library of Things stores occasional use items that members can borrow such as tools, outdoor equipment and appliances. The MP COOP Recycle Hub provides members a place to sort and recycle waste including batteries, soft plastics and chemicals, reducing red bin waste that would end up in landfill. These initiatives offer members an easy, practical way to reduce their personal consumption and to engage in sustainable reuse and repair which are key in moving toward a circular economy. The MP COOP vision is for residents in Millers Point, Dawes Point, Walsh Bay, The Rocks, Barangaroo, City North and Circular Quay to have significant and measurable waste reduction by 2030. I congratulate the Miller's Point Community Hub Co-op and its more than 70 members for their commitment to environmental conservation, sustainability and waste reduction.
