While I’ve worked well with MPs across the political spectrum, the major parties’ focus on point scoring over policy demeans the Parliament, undermines community trust and prevents good public outcomes. The recent incidents with David Elliott and Luke Foley are just an example of how low debate can stoop in the Legislative Assembly.
My fellow Independent Greg Piper MP voiced the sitting independents’ call to action to improve standards and behaviour: HERE. Independents Greg Piper, Joe McGirr and myself have met to discuss practical reforms to Parliament’s rules of debate so we can focus on addressing serious challenges like climate change and homelessness.
