NDIS

Tuesday 29 August 2017

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started in the Sydney electorate in July and will have a huge impact on people living with disability. St Vincent de Paul Local Area Coordinators will meet consumers and then develop individual plans that lead to funding. Plans should go beyond disability support services to include support for contributing in the community. I’m concerned that vulnerable people with disability should have an advocate to help make their plan fit their needs and priorities. You can get independent information and links to local advocates from IDEAS: www.ideas.org.au or learn through My Choice Matters: www.mychoicematters.org.au.

NDIS Information, linkages and capacity building will provide information and help with plans and services but is not running yet, see HERE. I’ve asked the NSW Minister for Disability Services to ensure ongoing funding for independent information and advocacy during the transition period.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
