Neon Playground

Neon Playground

(Community Recognition Statement, 20 October 2022, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)

On behalf of the Sydney Electorate, I congratulate the organisers and supporters of Neon Playground, a vibrant street festival of art, lights, music and food that is activating the Chinatown precinct and celebrating community and culture. I was pleased to join the successful opening and experience this fresh burst of creativity. This event will contribute to the revitalisation of Chinatown and the southern Sydney CBD, especially after the hit of COVID19 restrictions. It showcases local Asian Australian artists Chris Yee, Jason Wing, Joy Li, James Jirat Patradoon and Steffie Yee; and Sydney based music talents DJ Arisse, Nightjarr, Destructive Dance Steps, JYLPO, xTRILLIAMS, Dylan Goh, Chuey and others. Neon Playground will attract significant visits and bring new blood to the precinct. I thank the organisers Haymarket HQ, Soul of Chinatown, Basalt Studio, The Haymarket Chamber of Commerce and Bespok3. The event is well supported by the City of Sydney, small businesses and local community members. Business reactivation, especially cultural precinct activation is vital to revive and support local businesses and community. I encourage everyone to join the celebrations and visit our historic Chinatown for this modern experience.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
