New Planning Controls Apply
The planning minister has approved new height limits within 800 metres of service and transport hubs including Oxford Street, Kings Cross, Crown and Cleveland streets Surry Hills and Edgecliff Station. The permissible height will depend on whether land is within the designated hub or adjacent to it. There is an interactive map where you can check whether your home is covered though the map is an indication and anyone considering increasing height on their land should contact council directly to confirm permissible height. The indicative map doesn’t show heritage items, which are excluded or land zoned for heights above those in the policy.
I made a submission to the draft plan raising concerns that the approach to planning is blunt when we need strategic work to plan how our environment can best achieve population growth while protecting biodiversity, heritage and amenity. I’m also concerned about potential perverse impacts from increased property values. I will monitor impacts.
