Night Economy Risks
A diverse and vibrant late night economy is a hallmark of a great global city but the COVID-19 pandemic is hitting the industry hard. The lifesaving lockdowns and social distancing measures make it difficult to run hospitality and late night businesses and we are already seeing massive job losses. Sydney’s recent increase in community transmission is leading to even more downturn with some businesses reporting that they are barely keeping afloat. In normal conditions, the sector employs over a million people nationwide and is a vital part of the city’s cultural and social fabric; we cannot let this industry collapse.
In Parliament I called for an urgent roadmap that sets out the support and assistance needed to give the sector confidence, encourage investment and maintain the industry during the pandemic with plans for recovery. My speech: HERE
