Norman Booker

Norman Booker

(Community Recognition Statement, 26 November 2021, Legislative Assembly, NSW Parliament)

On behalf of the Sydney electorate, I'd like to record the many years of dedicated community service of local resident Norman Booker. Norman has made an extraordinary contribution to the Surry Hills community through his commitment to empowering individuals and fostering community support. Within multiple organisations and community led initiatives Norman has been a valued leader and advocate, ensuring that vulnerable members of the community are represented and have access to support and resources.

Norman chaired the Surry Hills Community Drug Action Team for nine years, raising awareness on the impact of alcohol and drug use and fostering a safer, healthier community. For many years Norman chaired the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Advisory Board as an independent volunteer, giving social housing tenants a voice and a forum to address community concerns. He was a board member and chaired The Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre's Board of Governors and contributed to the centre's community events.

As Member for Sydney, I commend Norman's passion and efforts, making a positive difference and creating a stronger, more inclusive community.

I thank Norman Booker for his support, advocacy, community building and service for the people of Surry Hills.

Let's work together to celebrate and protect our great city!
