NSW Parliament Thanks ACON for Ending HIV Campaign

NSW Parliament Thanks ACON for Ending HIV Campaign

The NSW Legislative Assembly has voted unanimously in support of a motion moved by Alex Greenwich, The Independent Member for Sydney, commending the work of ACON, The Health Minister Jillian Skinner, and the NSW Government towards Ending HIV.

Mr Greenwich said

“The unanimous support for my motion was a vote of confidence in the great work done by ACON for the LGBTI community, and the importance of early intervention health strategies”

Both the Government and Opposition spoke in favour of the motion, highlighting the multi-partisan support for HIV/AIDS prevention and education:

“Australia has a proud history of a multi-partisan approach to HIV/AIDS, with state and federal governments working productively with health and community organisations”

“It is a great sign of maturity that the NSW lower House today had a supportive discussion on safe sex practices and safe needle use”

Mr Greenwich also informed Parliament about the wider advocacy work done by ACON for the LGBTI community:

“When speaking on the motion I highlighted ACON’s important work advocating for vital reforms including marriage equality, voluntary euthanasia, and the medical use of cannabis” Mr Greenwich said.
