Poor Air
Many parts of Australia, especially city centres and mining areas experience air pollution levels much higher than what is considered “safe”. The Air Pollution Study reports air pollution in NSW causes 603 premature deaths and costs $4.8bn a year > HERE
Check the map showing estimates of small particles in the air (diameter 2.5 micrometres or PM2.5) in 2018, the most recent non-pandemic year without an extreme bushfire season > HERE
Pollution is largely from burning fuel: industry, power stations, domestic wood heaters and vehicles. Moving to electric vehicles will prevent local air pollution, along with renewable energy replacing fossil fuels.
