Press conference 1.15PM today as Liberals and Shooters team up to vote down democracy
17 September 2014
The Coalition will today force the City of Sydney Amendment (Elections) Bill 2014 through Parliament. The bill is designed by the Shooters party and Coalition to entrench corporate voting and drown out the voice of residents on local councils.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore, Independent Member for Sydney Alex Greenwich, Greens NSW MPs David Shoebridge and Jamie Parker, will be holding a joint press conference at 1.15pm today on this undemocratic bill.
WHO:
Lord Mayor Clover Moore
David Shoebridge Greens MP
Alex Greenwich Member for Sydney
Jamie Parker Greens Member for Balmain
WHEN: 1.15pm, Wednesday 17 September
WHERE: “Tree of Knowledge”, Hospital Road, rear of NSW Parliament House, Sydney
The bill gives every corporation that owns, leases or occupies land, two votes in Local Government elections and while its first target is the City of Sydney, it potentially allows this anti-democratic scheme to be applied in local councils across the state.
